Excerpts from the workshop "Values and Citizenship in Social Studies" as part of the Social Studies program

QRTA - As part of the Social Studies program, a workshop on "Values and Citizenship in Social Studies" was conducted with the support of the Canadian government and in collaboration with the Ministry of Education. The workshop spanned two days and targeted the directorates of Al-Tafilah Citadel, Jerash, Al-Jeeza, and Al-Salt.

The workshop aimed to emphasize the importance of distinguishing between ethics, values, culture, and the meaning of citizenship. It sought to achieve comprehensive student development, encompassing ethical, social, and political aspects. It highlighted the necessity for teachers to understand their role as role models and living examples for their students. The workshop also clarified how a teacher's actions and behavioral characteristics can impact students of different ages.

During the workshop, teachers were trained on various strategies for teaching values and citizenship. These strategies included case studies, storytelling teaching strategies, the values wheel, and the ethical dilemma strategy. Additionally, the workshop covered how to incorporate values in teaching and how to assess them.

The Social Studies Program provides a model for sustainable professional development based on the latest research findings and best practices in social studies teaching and learning. The program’s professional development activities incorporate courses related to social studies teaching, map technology, values, citizenship, classroom assessment, and special social studies skills.
